I created this web site in 2004 after accomplishing the daunting task of translating Laozi's Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching) from Chinese to English. I worked for many years with the Chinese characters used in Laozi's book, and came up with what I believe would be inspirational messages he intended.

Following that, I also translated The Zhuangzi (Chuang Tzu) from Chinese into English, which is another book written by one of the greatest Chinese philosophers.

Both of those books were written/compiled about 2500 years ago, but the messages still ring true today. If you take a moment to read through any of the chapters, I hope you'll find some smiles. I do.

A Journey through Dao Is Open
Laozi's Dao De Jing includes my own translation and commentaries of the Dao De Jing.
- Guodian Laozi. On each page you'll find photographic copies of the Guodian Bamboo Slips with the Traditional and Simplified Chinese for each character, the Pinyin and Wade/Giles spellings and the English definitions.
-Comparison Chart shows the various Chinese versions of the text.

Zhuangzi (Chuang Tzu) contains my own translation of the text, and....

- ZZ Links a list of helpful internet links and books about Zhuangzi.

I've written the Romanized spellings of Chinese words on this site in PinYin, which is the accepted spelling for Chinese words throughout most of the world. I've occasionally included the Wade/Giles spellings in parenthesis after the PinYin spellings, since many people are more familiar with that spelling of the Chinese words.
Thus: Dao is the same as (Tao).*
