to follow the intellectual path one only wants to learn more and has more contrivances and strife in their life to follow the way one's strife and goals begin to lessen their grip one contrives for less and less, until they no longer force or contrive for anything, when they only follow the way, all benefits happen of themselves one cannot lead by contriving to change things, just work with what naturally flows your way By: Tony We're being instructed that in order to reach full understanding, we have to let go of what we've learned. Nature will take it's course, it can't be forced. By: searching You can't raise an enthusiastic dog by beating it every moment of the day. You can't rule all under heaven if you meddle. By: hungrydummy "In matters of knowledge we learn something every day, In matters of dao we unlearn something every day" Meaning: To get in touch with dao we must go back to the base of our experience. (cf "dao is turning back") This cannot be achieved along the same paths as acquiring knowledge.
